Queen Camilla has said the King is “fine” and is “looking forward to getting back to work” as he awaits treatment for an enlarged prostate.

Buckingham Palace announced yesterday the King is set to attend hospital for the treatment next week.

The palace has postponed his engagements in the meantime.

It is not known exactly what procedure the King, who is 75, requires, but the palace said he will need “a short period of recuperation”.

The Queen has been visiting the Aberdeen Art Gallery, and was asked about the King by the Lord Provost.

She replied: “He’s fine, thank you very much. Looking forward to getting back to work.”

It comes as the Prince of Wales visited his wife Kate in hospital while she recovers from abdominal surgery.

William was seen leaving the private London Clinic at around 12.35pm on Thursday.

The princess, 42, was admitted on Tuesday for the successful, planned procedure but is expected to stay in hospital for 10 to 14 days before returning to her Adelaide Cottage home in Windsor.

Sky News understands the planned surgery was routine.

Kensington Palace refused to confirm what Kate was being treated for but said the condition was non-cancerous.

The King is at his private home Birkhall in Aberdeenshire, where he is preparing for the corrective procedure.

He had a series of meetings and events planned at Dumfries House in East Ayrshire today and on Friday, which are now being postponed on the advice of his doctor.

Buckingham Palace announced the news on Wednesday just an hour-and-a-half after Kensington Palace revealed the Princess of Wales had undergone abdominal surgery.

In a statement, the palace said: “In common with thousands of men each year, the King has sought treatment for an enlarged prostate.

“His Majesty’s condition is benign and he will attend hospital next week for a corrective procedure.

“The King’s public engagements will be postponed for a short period of recuperation.”

His daughter-in-law is said to be “doing well” but will spend up to three months away from royal duties.

Though the nature of the future Queen’s condition has not been revealed, it is serious enough for her husband to be stepping temporarily back from his official duties while she is in hospital and recuperates.

Kate is not expected to return to public duties until after Easter based on current medical advice, Kensington Palace said.

As well as being at his wife’s side, William will also care for their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis while their mother rests.

The princess was last seen at the Royal Family’s annual Christmas Day service in Sandringham.
