A second suspect has appeared in court charged with the murder of a “much-loved” dad following a “mass disturbance” in a South Lanarkshire street.

Stuart McGeachie was reportedly assaulted outside a premises in Rutherglen’s Farmeloan Road on 24 October.

The 38-year-old managed to make his way to a nearby flat but was pronounced dead at the scene.

His family described him as a “much-loved son, father and brother who will be greatly missed”.

On Thursday, Police Scotland arrested and charged a 22-year-old man in connection with Mr McGeachie’s death.

Craig McColl appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Friday.

McColl, of Glasgow, has been accused of murder and assault and faces two charges of carrying an offensive weapon in a public place.

He made no plea to the charges and was remanded in custody.

Callum David Cummins Summers, 27, appeared at the same court on Monday and also faces identical charges.

Summers, of no fixed address, also made no plea and was remanded in custody ahead of his next appearance.

Police Scotland said officers were alerted to reports of a disturbance on Farmeloan Road at its junction with Victoria Street at around 7pm on 24 October.

Separate from Mr McGeachie’s death, a 39-year-old man was arrested and charged with carrying an offensive weapon in a public place in connection with the alleged disturbance.

Alexander McGeachie, from Rutherglen, made no plea to the single charge when he appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court on 26 October.

He was remanded in custody ahead of his next court appearance.

Charged alongside Craig McColl in connection with the incident, Glasgow man Hugh McColl, 54, has been accused of assault.

He too made no plea to the charge on Friday and was released on bail. His next court appearance is yet to be confirmed.
