A French man has been charged with the rape of a British woman near the Eiffel Tower, prosecutors have said.
The suspect is accused of raping the woman – who is reported to be a policewoman in her 20s – in the Champ de Mars park in Paris earlier this week.
According to the Le Parisien newspaper, the alleged attacker was armed with a weapon when he targeted the woman.
In a statement to Sky News, the Paris public prosecutor’s office said a man was arrested “for allegedly raping a British tourist on the Champ de Mars”.
The suspect, who was born in 1988 in Chatenay-Malabry in France, appeared before a magistrate on Thursday charged with rape and was remanded in custody, it added.
