Rep. Lori Trahan has thrown her hat in the ring for one of the leading positions of the House Democratic Caucus’ messaging arm after Rep. Dean Phillips stepped down from the post.
Trahan (D-Mass.) sent a letter to her Democratic colleagues Thursday announcing her intent to run for the vacant co-chair position on the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee.
“I have remained committed to ensuring a strong Democratic front against the most harmful proposals brought to the floor by the majority. I believe our Democratic Caucus is strongest when we are united — against extremism, for progress, and in pursuit of a better future,” Trahan wrote.
Trahan already serves as a senior member of Minority Whip Katherine Clark’s whip team, as a member of the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee and on the Regional Leadership Council advising on the implementation of major legislation from the last Congress.
Fellow Bay Stater Jake Auchincloss (D-Mass.) had been weighing a bid for the open DPCC seat, but is now less likely to run with Trahan in the mix.
