A further 55 cases of the “double mutant” coronavirus variant first detected in India have been discovered in the UK in the week to 21 April, Public Health England said.
It takes the total number of B.1.617 infections to 132, according to PHE figures.
The news comes just hours before India is added to the travel red list on Friday, meaning arrivals will have to quarantine in hotels.
Public Health England also released data on Thursday that showed a further 70 cases of the South African variant have been found in the latest week.
This takes the total number in the UK to 670.
